Music

At Bournes Green we understand that music inspires creativity, self-expression, and a strong sense of community. Our music curriculum provides opportunities to listen to, compose and perform music from a wide range of genres, styles, and traditions. Children learn about the inter-related dimensions of music as well as the history of music and how musical styles have developed over time. In Year 5 children learn how to play the ukulele and further improve their knowledge of musical notation. As a whole school we participate in weekly singing assemblies where we enjoy learning new songs and increasing our musical vocabulary. High-quality musical learning has profound benefits for children in terms of wellbeing, academic achievement, and the development of emotional and social skills.

We appreciate that music is one of the highest forms of creativity. Our aim is to deliver a high-quality music education which engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. As they move through the school, the children will develop their musical creativity through practical and exploratory opportunities to develop as performers, composers and improvisers. The children will also develop an increasing understanding of the history of music, learning about music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of great composers.
