SCIENCE- MAKING SWITCHES

To end our Science topic on Electricity, the children experimented with a variety of equipment with the aim of creating a working switch. In pairs, they had foil, a paper clip, cardboard, paper, drawing pin and split pins. The children had about 20 minutes to explore the resources given, trialling whether they had created a working switch. After some exploration, the children were shown that in order to create a working switch, they needed a piece of cardboard, two split pins and a paper clip. When the paper clip touches the split pin it closes the circuit meaning the light bulb switches on. When the paper clip does not touch the split pin, the circuit is open meaning the light bulb does not light up. They were able to test this out themselves.
