This Monday, Year 6 dressed up as Medieval knights, kings, queens, lords, ladies and characters from Robin Hood, ready for our Medieval Day! They all looked absolutely fantastic! We had a fantastic time with our history expert from Portals through the Past, Dan, and learnt so much about the era.
First, he took us through the timeline of events following the Battle of Hastings in 1066- there was an endless list of different kings (lots with the same name) as well as a great deal of gory deaths! It really was a never-ending battle for the throne!
We also learnt about Medieval medicines and how doctors would treat their patients… cue even more gruesome details! Then, we tried on some Medieval armour and headwear- some of which was extremely heavy! We were taught some traditional Medieval games to finish the day and had a go at playing them in teams. Dan also taught us how to play a Medieval board game called ‘Nine Men’s Morris,’ which really brought out our competitive sides! We will definitely be playing it again soon!
All in all, we had a fun-packed day and went home with lots of new knowledge about the Middle Ages. Now we are even more excited about our trip to the Tower of London!
