Pine Class started their new PSHE unit of work this week and had such a wonderful time! They are taking part in the Active Me sessions, which focus on healthy living, diet and exercise.
This week, they learnt about the heart as an organ and what it's function is. The session started with a theory lesson in the classroom. Here, they learned about oxygen and carbon dioxide and how they are taken round the body. They found out that the oxygen is breathed into our lungs and taken by blood cells around the body. When it arrives in the heart it is pumped around the bodies in our arteries. Once the muscles have used the oxygen, carbon dioxide is produced as a waste product and travels in our veins back to the heart before being pumped back to the lungs for us to breathe out and inhale more oxygen.
After learning the theory, it was time to put it into action! The children went to the hall and took part in a circuit training lesson where they had to use blue and red balls to represent oxygen and carbon dioxide and how they travel round the body.
It was such a wonderful way to demonstrate what our body is doing all the time! What a fantastic way to spend a Friday afternoon!
Keep active Pine!
