Elm class had a fantastic day on Monday 15th October at the Chelmsford Water Treatment centre. Firstly the children recapped the stages of the water cycle and were very good at remembering all of the scientific vocabulary.
Then was the smelly part-the tour!! Although the children did not complain about the smell too much, they did spot some nasty things within the beginning stage of the process such as bodily waste, cotton buds and wipes. The children got to see how water is treated to ensure it is safe for use.
After our tour the children worked in groups to filter dirty water to try and make it as clean as possible. The children had different equipment on their funnels and had to work out the coarsest to the finest filter so that they could filter out as much dirt as possible.
