The children have been celebrating all things art during Arts week this week. They began the week by becoming detectives and solve a crime in a drama activity. They had to search for clues, listen to witness statements and picked out key information from a police report. We then researched the artist Monet, created a fact file on him and looked at some of his work; we discovered he was an impressionist painter! We then looked in more detail at his painting ‘The Water Lily Pond’ and recreated it using paint and pastel. We first tested different techniques such as marbling, layering, stroking and blending before painting our background. The next day we used our previous knowledge of pastels to add the bridge detail to our work. They all produced fantastic painting which they should be very proud of and which are now on display in the classroom. The end of the week was more musical. We had a special assembly were a company called ‘travelling by Tuba’ visited us and took on a world tour involving wind instruments and finally ended the week with a ukulele lesson. What a wonderful week!
“I really enjoyed Arts week. My favourite part was painting the Monet picture, it has inspired me to become an artist!” Abigail Richardson.
