Bournes Green Junior School

Strength through Wisdom

We are so proud of Sport at our school for many different reasons. As well as a range of sporting activities in curriculum time, we offer our children a range of extra opportunities before school, at lunch and after school. Did you know that over 75% of our extra opportunities are free of charge?

We achieve so much in Sport by approaching it in different ways. Firstly, we feel passionately about ensuring that our children get as many opportunities as possible. We aim to be inclusive and to give as many children as possible the valuable experience of representing our school (as can be seen by in our Sports Photo Gallery). Our children always represent the school with pride and we love celebrating their achievements as a whole school every Friday in assembly.

Secondly, we are competitive and whilst winning isn't everything, we do enjoy it and make no apologies for always trying to achieve our best. We show our opponents respect throughout but we always try to beat them if we can. This determination and will to win is one of the main reasons why our Trophy cabinets are very full.

Win, Lose or Draw- we always show our opponents respect throughout.

For more details on our achievements last academic year, please see. BGJS SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS document at the bottom of this page.

To get you in the mood for what sport is like at our school, why not take a look at the videos below...

Watch our Dodgeball team go on the attack during one of their victories at a recent tournament.

Great shot from Eddie in this next video from a recent Boccia tournament.

Now watch this spin from Isabelle as she races on to score a try. This was recorded at the large Tag Rugby tournament where our team came second out of 19 schools, which means that they have qualified for the Essex Finals later this academic year. Well done and good luck!

The following videos were recorded at Southend United's Roots Hall when our Boys made it to the Champions' Final against Chalkwell.

A tight game ended 1-1.

Extra time and no change to the score.

Game finished 1-1.

Time for penalties...

1-0 Oscar- great start

Chalkwell score their first penalty. 1-1

Hayden 2-1 Cool as a cucumber

Chalkwell score their second penalty. 2-2

Fred 3-2 Is it in? It's in! Yes Fred!

Chalkwell score their third and final penalty. 3-3

Time for sudden death penalties.

Two more brave Bournes Green and Chalkwell team members stepped up but their penalties were saved by two great goalkeepers (Well done Theo!).

So we rejoin the videos at the 6th penalty as Will steps up...

Never any doubt. 4-3 to us on penalties.

Now out of respect to Chalkwell, we will not show the final penalty but we can tell you that Theo saved it and we won the most epic Champions' final of recent years. Such a close final and well done to Chalkwell for a great match.

Congratulations to all involved!

Now take a look in our Sports Photo Gallery to see photos of a very special afternoon at Roots Hall.
