MATHS AND SCIENCE WEEK 2018!

Once again, we have had a combined fabulous Maths and Science Week at Bournes Green Junior School full of excitement, intrigue and learning!

Once again, we have had a combined fabulous Maths and Science Week at Bournes Green Junior School full of excitement, intrigue and learning!

The week began with a visit from the Happy Puzzle Company, where each class had the opportunity to work on a selection of Maths puzzles requiring logic, problem solving and team work.  It was wonderful and lovely to see our children so resilient at solving challenging puzzles.  Rebecca, from the Happy Puzzle Company, said she had never been to a school before with such patient, resilient and hard-working children.  I was incredibly proud to be told such a fabulous compliment.

We always like to involve our Year 2 children during Maths and Science Week and this year was just the same!  We welcomed Red and Blue Units (our future Year 3 children) to the Junior School to work with our current Year 3 on a range of puzzles which allowed them to show what they could do and work collaboratively to share strategies and solve problems.  Similarly, we also like to take advantage of our fantastic local Secondary Schools and start the transition process from KS2 to KS3 for our Upper School children.  Year 6 enjoyed a morning at Shoebury High School using their Science laboratories whilst Year 5 had a great time helping Southend High School for Girls celebrate their “eday” alongside Maths students from Years 7 and 10.

Our annual number hunt took place outside in the glorious sunshine with children having to solve questions by finding the member of staff displaying the correct answer.  It is such a lovely tradition and I just love seeing all of the children working together and thoroughly enjoying Maths. Children also took part in quizzes with the “Clever Clogs” winning the Year 3 and 4 quiz and the “Six-mathicians” winning the Year 5 and 6 quiz.  Well done to everyone!

We also took part in teacher swaps where children had the opportunity to work with different members of staff on either a Science or Maths based lessons as well as lots of cross-curricular lessons incorporating these superb subjects.

This fantastic week ended with a celebration of everything that had been produced and a Maths and Science themed non-uniform day!

Well done everyone and thank you.
