On the last day before half term Elm Class had a fascinating and rather smelly day out at the Anglia Water Treatment Centre in Chelmsford. The day consisted of some classroom time taking part in investigations and experiments, and the much talked about tour of the sewage works.
In the classroom the children learnt about the water cycle and filtration and carried out an investigation involving filtering dirty water.
The outside tour was fascinating, although some children wished they had brought pegs for their noses! Luckily an air freshener was being pumped into the air, although some people thought this smelt worse!
We saw all the different stages the sewage goes through including the chocolate cake stage!
Later on we learnt about saving water and how small things such as turning off taps when brushing teeth is very helpful.
It was a fabulous day enjoyed by all the adults, children and helpers.
