UNIQUE WEEK!

During Unique Week, we thought about emotional well-being and resilience.  Over the week we focussed on a different aspects of well-being and how they can help to enhance our everyday lives.

On Monday, we looked at GIVE and being kind and respectful to people.  We looked at ways in which we can give the act of kindness and how it is often the little things that make the difference – looking out for each other, supporting and helping our friends – rather than the big gestures.  It was about being thoughtful and putting others first.  On Tuesday, we thought about RELATE where we had the opportunity to talk about ourselves.  We all told the class something that they did not already know.  This was fascinating because, although the class have been together since Reception, there will still interesting facts and stories that they hadn’t shared.  We also had our wonderful assembly from Lancaster School where the children focussed on resilience.  It was such a great assembly and definitely inspired us.  Some of the class also had the opportunity to ask questions.  I was so impressed with how polite and respectful they were.  On Wednesday, we talked about the importance of EXERCISE for our well-being and ensuring that we are always active.  This could be through sport, dance, walking, playing with our friends etc.  The weather was very kind to us last week so when Thursday’s activity was to APPRECIATE the outdoor environment this gave us a wonderful opportunity to sit outside and actually take in how lucky we are to be at this school.  We looked at the school grounds and all of the different resources which were available to us.  We discussed the different plants and trees we had and how they were changing now that Spring as finally arrived.  We really need to enjoy our surroundings and make the most of every moment.  It was a very special moment.

This led us to Friday and our main activity for the week!  Earlier on in the week I had introduced what we would be doing for our last day’s focus which was TRY SOMETHING NEW.  We are always talking about the importance of learning from others and sharing our skills and talents.  We do this a lot in class through collaborative learning and peer support – such a valuable resource.  However, we wanted to take it a step further so the children were all asked to think of something which they could do and share with others.  They had to prepare it themselves and then teach somebody on Friday afternoon.  We had a wonderful array of activities including: teaching people to play musical instruments, sewing, origami, dancing, football skills, basketball techniques and many more.  We definitely are a talented group of children!  The children were superb pupils and teachers and it was lovely to see such a mixture of different activities.

Well done Hazel Class!
